Success for Norwegian friend of Kiev Philharmonic

The 15-year-old Norwegian girl Eldbjørg Hemsing won the first prize in her category and was honoured as a Laureate, the prize for the best competitor of the entire competition, at the Kocian International Competition in the Czech Republic two weeks ago. Furthermore, she won several additional prizes for her performances in the competition, which is considered to be one of the most important for young violinists world-wide.

Eldbjørg and her sister Ragnhild visited Ukraine in 2002 and 2004, when both of them played solo with The National Philharmonic of Ukraine in Kiev, performing pieces by various Norwegian composers, such as Edvard Grieg, Johan Svendsen, Johan Halvorsen and Ole Bull. They have also been invited as soloists for the 2005 programme.
