Skien - the town where Ibsen was born and lived until he was 15 years old - has a wide variety of activities, projects and plans originating from their famous fellow townsman´s life and works. The local authority will contribute heavily to the Ibsen Year 2006 and has launched a brand-new website with information on their Ibsen efforts.
The website presents all Ibsen activities in Skien - current and upcoming - and contains background material about Ibsen`s connection with Skien as well.
The local authority of Skien has a threefold focus for their efforts:
- Skien as Ibsen´s home town
- Ibsen communicated to children and young people
- Ibsen as artist and human being
The local authority is among other things aiming at establishing StøpeSkien (in Norwegian identical in sound with the word for ‘meltingpot`) as a national competence centre for Ibsen didactics and the communication of Ibsen to children and young people. StøpeSkien was established by the local authority of Skien in the year 2000.
