Visas for seamen

Ukrainian seamen joining vessels in a Norwegian port travel to Norway without Norwegian Visa. However, if a seaman needs to transit another Schengen country in order to get to Norway, she/he applies for a Schengen visa at the Embassy of the transit country.

For instance, if a seaman embarks on a ship in a Norwegian port and wishes to transit Poland on the way to Norway, he/she should apply for a visa at the Embassy of Poland, as he/she is exempted from the visa requirements to Norway.

Furthermore, seamen joining a Norwegian registered vessel in a port outside Norway should apply for a transit visa to the Schengen member state where the port is located (in accordance with §3-16 of Immigration Regulation).

For instance, if a seaman needs to join a Norwegian vessel in a Danish port, he/she applies for a visa at the Embassy of Denmark.
