It’s the fifth time for Kyiv International Short Film Festival!
In the period of 20-24 April the capital of Ukraine will host a genuine film marathon, because Kyiv International Short Film Festival (#KISFF2016) has prepared a program of short films on a massive scale. Kyiv has never experienced something like this before. The program of the annual anniversary #KISFF2016 includes about 250 short films from 70 countries, open-air screenings, film school lectures, events for film industry guests and special spring mood.
The main location of the festival will be ‘Kinopanorama’ cinema theatre. ‘Lyra’ cinema theatre will also screen some of the films and the open-air screenings will take place in the theatre ‘Rakushka’ in Mariinsky Park.
The festival program consists of more than 35 festival screenings. Apart from the competition program, there will be many other interesting things. The section ‘Territorial Focus’ includes the films dedicated to Quebec, Near East and One-storied America.
The section ‘Retrospectives’ includes works of the celebrated Danish director Carl Theodor Dreyer — the best films of one of the oldest German short film festivals ‘Interfilm Berlin’ in 30 years, etc.
A special attention should be drawn to the festival section ‘Avant-garde’ that includes avant-garde and experimental films in such programs as Відеоарт ХХІ (Videoart XXI) and Celluloid Poems.
Do not miss the screenings of the section ‘Festival Favourites’ that includes conventional and new programs: films about family values, teen spirit and our inner boundaries as well as festival hits from all over the world.
The presentation of the almanac ‘Here in Lisbon — Episodes of a City’, that was created by celebrated directors Denis Côté, Gabriel Abrantes and others, as well as the program of human rights animation from ‘HUMRA’, are among our guest programs.
An important part of the festival is Ukrainian cinema. This year for the first time in KISFF history, the local filmmakers compete for the prize that comes as a monetary award given to the best film selected by the Jury.
The special project that synthesizes music and cinema — ‘Sound and Vision’ — will open
#KISFF2016: Ukrainian bands have created musical accompaniment for the most famous short films and will play live during the screening of the films at the festival opening ceremony on 20th April at 20:00 in Budynok Kino (House of Cinema). Such musical formations as Blooms Corda, TIK TU, Mandarinaduck, Mykola Makeyev and others will be performing at the opening ceremony.

This year festival jury consists of reknown filmmakers: famous Belgian photographer and director Pieter-Jan De Pue — one of the Sundance 2016 winners, Réka Bucsi, Hungarian independent animator, whose film ‘Symphony № 42 won at #KISFF2014, Ukrainian-American director Bogdana Smirnova, whose films have gained an enormous popularity at festivals. This year’s president of the jury is Andrii Khalpakhchi, the head of ‘Molodist’ film festival.
The festival education program will benefit from the presence of many high professional filmmakers who are among the guests of #KISFF2016. ‘Short Film School’ created in cooperation with Kyiv Academy of Media Arts, the education partner of the festival, invites to visit the lectures of experienced foreign filmmakers in the period of 20-24 April. The lectures are free of charge however registration is required.
Another education program organized in cooperation with ‘435 FILMS’ company is ‘Short Doctoring’. The main point is to help young directors and producers create short fiction films in current Ukrainian realia. They will be able to consult the front-rank Ukrainian film experts. Participation is free of charge. You can apply for participation and learn more on the KISFF website.
Despite the financial crisis, #KISFF2016 is loyal to its audience: ticket prices are symbolic (25 ₴) and for cinephiles we provide season tickets (200 ₴) that entitle a customer to enter all the screenings of the festival. The entrance is free for pensioners. Tickets are already available on the website and in ‘Kinopanorama’.

Київський міжнародний фестиваль короткометражних фільмів відбудеться вп'яте!
З 20 по 24 квітня у столиці України відбудеться справжній кіномарафон, адже Київський міжнародний фестиваль короткометражних фільмів (#KISFF2016) підготував масштабну програму актуального кіно. Такого в Києві ще не було! Близько 250 короткометражних фільмів з 70 країн світу, покази просто неба, вже традиційна кіношкола, події для представників кіноіндустрії та прекрасний весняний настрій — все це у програмі цьогорічного ювілейного #KISFF.
Основною локацією фестивалю стане кінотеатр «Кінопанорама», частину програми прийме кінотеатр «Ліра», а покази просто неба — літній амфітеатр «Ракушка» в Маріїнському парку.
Програма фестивалю складається з більше ніж 35 фестивальних сеансів. Окрім основної конкурсної програми, на глядачів чекає багато цікавого. Секція “Територіальний фокус” представить програми, присвячені Квебеку, Близькому Сходу й одноповерховій Америці.
“Ретроспективна секція” охопила роботи культового данського режисера Карла Теодора Дреєра, кращі фільми за 30 років одного з найстаріших фестивалів короткометражного кіно Німеччини “Інтерфільм Берлін” та інше.
Окремої уваги заслуговує “Авангардна секція” фестивалю, яка представить здобутки авангардного та експериментального кіно в програмах Відеоарт XXI та Celluloid Poems.
Не проґавте покази секції “Фаворитів фестивалю”, куди увійшли вже звичні та нові програми: кіно про сімейні цінності та підлітковий дух, наші внутрішні кордони та фестивальні хіти з усього світу.
Серед гостьових програм — презентація альманаху “Тут у Лісабоні — Епізоди міста”, який створили імениті режисери Дені Коте, Ґабріель Абрантес та інші, програма правозахистної анімації від міжнародного проекту “ХУМРА”.
Важлива частина фестивалю — українські стрічки. Цього року фестиваль вперше робить цю програму конкурсною та започатковує призовий фонд і окреме журі. Окрім цього, KISFF покаже стрічки іноземних режисерів про Україну в позаконкурсній програмі.
Відкриє #KISFF2016 спеціальний проект синтезу музики та кіно — “Sound & Vision”: українські гурти створили авторський музичний супровід до відомих короткометражних стрічок та зіграють його наживо, паралельно з демонстрацією фільмів на церемонії відкриття фестивалю 20 квітня о 20:00 у Будинку Кіно. У цій події візьмуть участь такі музичні формації: Blooms Corda, TIK TU, Mandarinaduck, Микола Макеєв та інші.

До журі цьогорічного фестивалю входять авторитетні кінематографісти: відомий бельгійський фотограф і режисер Пітер-Ян де Пю — один із переможців цьогорічного “Sundance” Река Бучі — угорська незалежна аніматорка, чий фільм “Симфонія №42” переміг на #KISFF2014, українсько-американська режисерка Богдана Смирнова, фільми якої здобули неабияку популярність на фестивалях. Очолить цьогорічне журі Андрій Халпахчі — незмінний керівник кінофестивалю “Молодість”.
Серед гостей #KISFF2016 буде багато високопрофесійних кінематографістів, що позитивно відобразилося на освітніх заходах фестивалю. Кіношкола «Short Film School», організована спільно з Kyiv Academy of Media Arts, освітнім партнером фестивалю, запрошує з 20 по 24 квітня на лекції передових іноземних кінематографістів. Участь у кіношколі безкоштовна за попередньою реєстрацією.

Незважаючи на фінансову кризу, #KISFF2016 залишається лояльним до глядачів: ціни на квитки — символічні (25 грн), а для сінефілів існують абонементи (200 грн), які відкривають доступ на всі покази фестивалю.
