Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank received the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize to a standing ovation at Oslo City Hall on Sunday 10 December.
12/12/2006 :: This year’s prize was shared by Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank for their efforts to create economic and social development from below.
“Through the award of this year’s Peace Prize, the Norwegian Nobel Committee wishes to focus attention on dialogue with the Muslim world, on the women’s perspective, and on the fight against poverty,” said the Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Ole Danbolt Mjøs.
The Nobel Peace Prize was presented by the Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee during the ceremony in Oslo City Hall, which was attended by the Norwegian Royal Family, Government and Storting representatives and invited guests.
