Applications for residence permits will always be forwarded to the Directorate of Immigration (UDI) for decision. The Embassy only receives the application and sends it electronically the same day for further processing to the UDI. For expected case-processing times, please confer UDI's web page. Also confer Norwegian Directorate of Immigration – residence and work information. The Embassy will inform the applicant by phone or in writing about final decision.
If you have a family member living in Norway, or you want to set up a family with a person living there, you can apply for a family immigration permit to come and live together with him or her.
To be granted family immigration with a person living in Norway, you must be related to or have plans to set up a family with him or her. Here, you will find an overview of who can be granted a residence permit and the criteria that must be met.
If you have questions concerning an already ongoing application for residence permit, please contact the UDI directly. Contact details can be found at UDIs websites.
Being related to the person in Norway is in itself not sufficient to be granted a family immigration permit. Certain requirements apply to the person with whom you are applying for family immigration. Read more about this on the page: Requirements of the person living in Norway (the sponsor).
