Fjords and Mountains
We recommend a 10-day trip around the beautiful fjords and valleys. Attractions include romantic Setesdal and the winding roads between Haukeli and Hardanger. Mountain crossings between the splendid Hardangerfjord and historic Bergen and between Bergen and the mighty Sognefjord.
West Cape
A route you will enjoy. Hamar and Lake Mjøsa. Lillehammer, site of the 1994 Winter Olympics. Gudbrandsdalen, one of Norway’s most beautiful valleys. Vågå and Lom with their medieval stave churches. The scenic beauty of the road to Geiranger. Include the detour to Dalsnibba, 1494 metres above sea level. A ferry tour on the famous Geirangerfjord. A week is hardly enough.
Mountain Tour
Attractions on the route include: Kongsberg with its old silver mines. The stave churches of Numedal. The open-air museum at Fagernes. The road through Jotunheimen, which ascends to 1389 metres above sea level. The boat trip on Lake Gjende is highly recommended. Set aside a week for this tour.
South Coast and Telemark
A tour along the south coast and up into Telemark can begin in Oslo, Larvik, Kristiansand, Stavanger or Haugesund. It follows the coastline, with inviting detours to little towns redolent with maritime atmosphere, bathing beaches and camp sites. This tour can take four days or four weeks, depending on the length of your stopovers.
Top of the Fjords
Historic Bergen. Narrow, winding roads to the Sognefjord, with panoramic views. The old stone bridge north of Vadheim. Lake Jølster - try the local road south of the lake via the painter Nicolai Astrup’s home and make a detour to Fjærland. Våtedal, with its frame of mountains. Almost a week is needed because there is so much to see.
North Cape
On this route you'll visit Oslo, Norway's capital. A few hours driving further north you will drive through the picturesque Gudbrandsdalen, and then you’ll reach Dovrefjell, which is 1026 metres above sea level and the highest point on the tour. Then there is Trondheim and its magnificent cathedral. After this you cross the Arctic Circle at an altitude of 692 metres. At the end of the trip you reach the North Cape, which is the northernmost point of mainland Europe. At least 10 days are needed for this tour.
Helgeland and Lofoten
The drive along the Helgeland coast has been called the finest in the world. Make it fourteen days, so that you can make detours to all the sights along the way. From Brønnøysund to the mountain Torghatten, with its famous hole in the middle. Or the boat trip from Stokkvågen to the island of Lovunden with its seabird colonies, and bewitching Træna. The Seven Sisters mountains. The Nordland fairy tale book lies open before you.
Flåm and Sognefjorden
Flåm is an excellent starting point for excursions in the Sognefjord area. The region offers you the world’s most breathtaking fjord and mountain landscape. You can spend several days exploring the various attractions.
