Hunting and fishing

Norway is a country rich in hunting and fishing opportunities. The forests and mountains offer large numbers of moose, wild reindeer, deer, hare, grouse and other large woodland birds.
For the angler there are cod, coalfish and mackerel to be caught all along the coast, and salmon, sea trout and red char swim in many of the rivers. Freshwater lakes and ponds are full of pike, perch, eel, trout and char.

In order to hunt game, it is necessary to have a hunting licence and permission from the land owner, or to be a member of an authorised hunting co-operative. Fishing requirements are easier - you just pay the set fee. There are fewer restrictions on fishing in the sea and for children under 16. Fishing with live bait is forbidden in Norway. While hunting is mainly for adults, there is no age limit for fishing.
