The check lists referred to describe which documents that should be enclosed together with the application for the different types of visas. You will find links to all the check lists in the text or in the right column.
Here you will also find links to Application forms and Questionnaire A-D required for the different purposes of a short term C-visa, as listed at the bottom of check list 1. The applicant should in addition to the check list, fill in one of questionnaires A-C, depending on the purpose of the short stay visit. If a resident of Norway is inviting, he/she should fill in questionnaire D.
We strongly advise NOT TO BUY TICKETS UNTIL DECISION IS TAKEN. The Embasy may request to see a valid return ticket before passport with visa handed out. In some cases the applicant may be requested to report to the Embassy after returning from Norway
- Family/Friend/Tourist/Business or Transit visa
If you intend to stay in Norway/Iceland/Schengen for less than 90 days to visit family or friends, or for business and/or tourist purposes, you are advised to apply for a visa. The maximum period of stay is 90 days. For documents required please see Check list 1 (ENGLISH - UKRAINIAN) and remember to enclose and fill in the relevant available questionnaire listed at the bottom.
The Embassy will decide on the application for a C visa in 5-7 working days after it has been submitted for applications through Visa Portal and within 20 days for paper applications. If a visa is granted, it will normally be issued within this period. Within 7 working days (20 for paper applications) one of 3 types of the decisions will be produced:
1. Decision to grant visa (passport with visa can be received between 10.00 and 12.00 any working day at the visa section)
2. Decision about rejection. In this case the applicant will receive rejection letter by post with explanation of the reasons for rejection and notification about appeal procedure. Reasons for rejection do not discussed by phone. The applicant can state arguments against the decision in the letter of appeal sent by post. In case of rejection the applicant or person with power of attorney should receive passport within 3 months after the date of the decision.
3. Decision to forward the application to the Directorate of Immigration (UDI) for further processing in Norway. For expected time upon decision, please confer UDI's web page. The Embassy will inform the applicant by phone or in written about final decision.
- Residence/Work permit. Family reunion.
If you intend to stay in Norway for more than 90 days or if you intend to work, you are advised to apply for a residence/work permit. Applications for residence permits will always be forwarded to the Directorate of Immigration (UDI) for decision. For expected time upon decision, please confer UDI's web page. Also confer Norwegian Directorate of Immigration – residence and work information. For documents required please see Check list 2 (ENGLISH- UKRAINIAN). The Embassy will inform the applicant by phone or in written about final decision.
- Getting married in Norway
From October 1st 2006 it is no longer possible to apply for a residence/work permit while visiting Norway on a short term C-visa (Press release from AID in Norwegian). Ukrainian citizens who get married in Norway carrying a short term C-visa will have to return to Ukraine to apply for a residence/work permit with purpose of family reunification. If you intend to get married to a Norwegian while in Norway, you are therefore advised to apply for a residence/work permit with the intention of entering into marriage. Applications for residence permits will always be forwarded to the Directorate of Immigration for decision. For expected time upon decision, please confer UDI's web page. For documents required please see Check list 2 (ENGLISH - UKRAINIAN). The Embassy will inform the applicant by phone or in written about final decision.
- Entry visa for further reunification with spouse in Norway
The embassy might in exceptional cases, issue a 7 days’ D-visa with the purpose to reunificate with spouse in Norway. If you are married to a Norwegian and intend to stay in Norway for more than 90 days, you can apply for such an an entry visa (ref. RS 2003-015 in Norwegian). This visa ensures valid stay for a period of 7 days, during which an application for a residence has to be submitted at the local police office. The applicant is then entiteled to stay in Norway while the application for a residence permit is under consideration at the UDI.
A 7 days’ D-visa will only be granted if the Embassy has been provided with documents which prove that the relationship is of a long lasting and serious character. If the Norwegian citizen previously has been married to a foreigner from a country that needs visa to Norway, or the Ukrainian citizen has been previously married to a Norwegian citizen, a 7 days’ D-visa will not be granted.
New regulations have been issued regarding required documentation from the Norwegian spouse (Click here for information in Norwegian). For documents required please see Check list 3 (ENGLISH - UKRAINIAN). Processing time is 4-four-weeks. The Embassy will inform the applicant by phone or in written about final decision.
If you intend to study in Norway you are advised to apply for a residence/study permit. Applications for residence/study permits will always be forwarded to the Directorate of Immigration (UDI) for decision. For expected time upon decision, please confer UDI's web page. Useful information about requirements connected with Study permit (Circular 18/2005 , Study and Financing plans etc.) can be found on Web page of UDI. Also confer Norwegian Directorate of Immigration – residence and study information. For documents required please see Check list 5 (ENGLISH - UKRAINIAN). The Embassy will inform the applicant by phone or in written about final decision.
If you are specialist, has sufficient funds and consider that you are able to search for employment in Norway according to your education and qualifications, you may apply for entry job seeker's visa. A study entry visa can be applied for if you are accepted to a school/university. Terms of consideration - from 4 weeks untill 2-3 months in some cases. For documents required please see Check list 4 (ENGLISH - UKRAINIAN).
However, in these cases the applicant will still have to submit and pay for an application upon arrival to Norway. The applicant will be pending for the final decision in Norway with possible limitations in work or studies. The Embassy therefore recommends the applicant to apply for a residence/work/study permit from the country of main residence. The Embassy will inform the applicant by phone or in written about final decision.
